End of The Year Post

Recently Barry Bonds, baseball's homerun leader, is being prosected by the federal government asking that he spend 15 moths behind bars. If judgeSusan Illston follows her normal pattern, Bonds is likely to spend no jail time and a lot of time under house arrest. Bonds will appear in court on Friday for sentencing on his April 13 conviction of obstuction of justice. The accusation started from the 2003 testimony to a grand jury relating the steroid scandal.

The Yankees are my favorite baseball team and are currently one of the best teams in the league. The Yankees have a good offensive and defensive line-up, including some of the best today, for example, Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano, Derek Jeter, and Mark Teixeira. The Yankees have won the World series twice from 2000-2010, in 2000 and 2009. They also have made the playoffs all but one year from 2000-2010, only not making the playoffs in 2008. The Yankees have 27 total World Series wins, beating the team with 2nd most, the St. Louis Cardinals with 11 wins. The Yankees are one of the best in the league and will be in the future.

6 weeks after leading the Cardinals to another World Series title, Albert Pujols accepted the second highest contract in baseball history. The contract is a 10-year contract for $254 million with the Los Angeles Angels. When the Cardinals selected Pujols in the 13th round of the 1999 amatuer draft, no one expected him to be what he is today. Pujols has recieved many awards since his 2001 rookie season, including: the 2001 NL Rookie of the Year award, NL MVPs in 2005, 2008 and 2009, a batting title in 2003 and a pair of Gold Gloves at first base. Albert's 10 year contract with the Angels is the 2nd highest contract in baseball history only to fall behind Alex Rodriguez's $275 million 10 year contract with the Yankees.

George Herman Ruth Jr. born on February 6, 1895, best known as "Babe Ruth", was an American League baseball player from 1914- 1935. Babe Ruth has earned nicknames including: "The Bambino" and "The Sultan of Swat", during his major league career. Ruth originally came into the major leagues as a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but soon was traded to the New York Yankees in 1919, and became a full-time right fielder and became one of the greatest hitters of all time. George helped the Yankees win 7 Pennants and 4 World Series titles. Because of these accomplishments, Babe Ruth is what we know today.

Babe Ruth's contributions to baseball have shaped the sport into what we know of it today. Ruth's record of Hitting 714 home runs, until Hank Aaron topped the record gave him the name what we know today. When Ruth was traded to the Yankees from Boston in 1919 this caused much controversy and created the rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox. Ruth's exceptional hitting, batting at .343 with 2,873 hits, gave him a spot in Sporting News' top 100 baseball players of all time and got him inducted into the Hall of Fame. With out Babe Ruth, the game of baseball would not be what we know of it today.

Babe Ruth's impacts on the sport have shaped how the sport is thought of and how baseball is played today. I think this person is important because they are considered one of, or the best baseball player of all time. Because of Ruth's baseball success he even got his on T.V. show, The Adventures of Babe Ruth, and many movies have been created based on Ruth. Babe Ruth's impact on the world has changed people opinion on how people think of baseball. Because of Babe Ruth, the sport would not be played the same it is today.

Baseball consists of 9 defensive positions, which include, catcher, pitcher, 1st base, 2nd base, short-stop, 3rd base, left field, center field, and right field. The pitcher uses a variety of pitches to attempt to strike out the batter, while the catcher catches the balls thrown by the pitcher and tries to get runners out when they try to steal a base. The first baseman covers first base, and fields balls hit near the base. The 2nd baseman covers 2nd baseball, with the short-stop, and fields balls in most of the area from 2nd to 1st base. The 2nd baseman is also the cut off man for balls hit to deep right field. The short-stop covers 2nd base, with the 2nd baseman, and fields balls hit in most of the area from 2nd to 3rd base. The short-stop is the cut off man for balls hit to deep right and center field. The 3rd baseman covers 3rd base, and fields balls hit near 3rd base. The left fielder fields balls in left field, the center fielder fields balls in center, and the left fielder fields balls in right. In the American League each team also has a DH, designated hitter, a player who never plays in the field, unless playing away against a National League team. The batting team has 3 outs to score has many runs as possible before having to field. If the batter does not make contact with the ball, the batter hits a fly ball, that is caught, or gets thrown out on a grounder, the batter is out. A few baseball legends include: Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Cy Young, and Ricky Henderson. A few current popular baseball players include: Roy Halladay, Albert Pujols, and Joe Mauer.

I got interested in baseball because I play baseball. I have played baseball since I was 5 and hope to continue playing as long as I can. I enjoy playing the sport, but also I enjoy watching baseball games on T.V. My favorite team is the New York Yankees. My dad got me into watching and playing baseball when I was young. Me and my dad would go to fields and practice. My dad has always encouraged me to continue playing and this has kept me playing the sport.
