Blog Post #4

6 weeks after leading the Cardinals to another World Series title, Albert Pujols accepted the second highest contract in baseball history. The contract is a 10-year contract for $254 million with the Los Angeles Angels. When the Cardinals selected Pujols in the 13th round of the 1999 amatuer draft, no one expected him to be what he is today. Pujols has recieved many awards since his 2001 rookie season, including: the 2001 NL Rookie of the Year award, NL MVPs in 2005, 2008 and 2009, a batting title in 2003 and a pair of Gold Gloves at first base. Albert's 10 year contract with the Angels is the 2nd highest contract in baseball history only to fall behind Alex Rodriguez's $275 million 10 year contract with the Yankees.

  3. That is a crazy amount of money to be paid! It seems unfair since baseball is something they love. Yeah I think Pujols is really good tough, and hopefully he won't stop the Red Sox from winning this year!

  4. It's surprising that they would offer him such a long contract considering he has already been playing for a while. Many baseball players stop playing with age so that must mean he is really good.

  8. In order to land Albert they had to offer him a long term contract which is not bad because he will be able to DH the older he gets.
